Funga utilizes the forest fungal microbiome to boost forestry health and combat climate change, enriching microbial diversity. They introduce a diverse range of fungi and microbes into degraded areas, promoting quicker tree growth, increased carbon storage, and the development of robust, biodiverse forests.

POSITIVE NOTES

Funga is a very innovative and disruptive case in the climate tech space. The company leverages the forest fungal microbiome to improve forestry outcomes and address the climate crisis, while enhancing beneficial microbial biodiversity. Until today, they have sampled +500 healthy native forests to identify full soil microbiomes, which have adapted to different soil and habitat conditions. Then, by inoculating degraded ecosystems with a full-spectrum mix of mycorrhizal fungi and microbes sourced from a healthy ecosystem of the same type, foresters achieve faster tree growth, resulting in more carbon-based biomass (both above-ground and in soil), and resilient, biodiverse forests. 

 

Funga is currently operational in the US with around 11 operational field trials, and ongoing discussions with carbon project developers in Brazil indicate a prospective expansion into new territories in the near future.
